Atelier Braque, Villa de Guelma Paris

An art centre created by Michèle Cohen of La Non-Maison has unveiled an iconic, forgotten landmark in Paris, the former studio of Georges Braque, the Villa de Guelma, in Pigalle. This is where he and his neighbour Pablo Picasso first experimented and developed cubism in 1911.
The tiny building was a hotbed of creation: one floor below was Raoul Dufy's studio, and on the ground floor Suzanne Valladon, and her son Maurice Utrillo.

The Atelier Braque welcomes art historians’ residencies in an intimate setting. Conceived as a research laboratory, it holds conferences, exhibitions and events, reviving this historic studio, integral to French cultural heritage.

La Villa de Guelma hosted Taiwanese researcher and visual artist Alice Tsai 蔡欣芸, who's developed her own ideographic language, in her Dictionnaire des Relations 關係字典.

Superimposing past and present, interior and exterior, through polymorphic experiences, she combines video installations, image texts, sculptural images, and performances.

TAIWAN NEW WAVE 東方藝式流 - "XANADU MOTION” Paris September 18th - 21st, 2019

alamak!project proudly presents
TAIWAN NEW WAVE 東方藝式流 EXHIBITION "XANADU MOTION

TAIWAN NEW WAVE - Xanadu Motion exhibition at the Espace Commines in Paris, September 18th - 21st, was a great success.

With fashion as language, art as format and culture as its essence, the exhibition incorporated Taiwanese fashion, art,  music, technology, tea art and cuisine from 12 creators and brands.
Merging fashion elements with contemporary art and presented in the form of an art gallery, the exhibition provided Paris an oriental cultural experience to kick off Fashion Week.
One of the most liberal countries in Asia, with vivid contemporary design and a unique technological environment, Taiwan provides a glimpse into the future of Asia. As millennials grow up in a completely different environment in the post Made-in-Taiwan era, more genuine, self-aware and independent identities are portrayed from philosophical, social and psychological perspectives, and expressed through visual culture, arts, fashion, photography and film.
New voices of the future, they push the boundaries of technology and craftsmanship: from rope-art to haute-couture, feather work, painting, photography, video art, ceramics and jewellery.

alamak!project has produced in Taiwan the video Xanadu Motion featuring models wearing designer Kilin Chen 張暘's couture dresses, in collaboration with famous Japanese underwater filmmaker Manabu Koga 古賀学.

Chochotte is a historical erotic theatre where amateur girls perform in handmade costumes. The theatre is in a small medieval basement in the Paris Latin Quarter, the last of its kind. It is in a financially precarious situation and risks closing. Unlike common strip clubs, Chochotte offers a pure theatre experience, with no drinks sold, and the audience sitting close to the action and each other. The images were taken during rehearsals on sensitive grainy film, using only the lights of the club.

“People in video chat rooms expose their bodies and genitalia, for pleasure and satisfaction. My lover says it is a safe act without physical contact, stranger cannot see his face. So I found a lot of different models to cooperate, shooting their masturbating facial expressions. It is absolutely universal, rather than erotic, and beyond interpretations of morality.”

Young Love: "When I was 17 years old and a student, the girl sitting beside me in class passed away after a short struggle with an illness. Her name was Esther. She had stopped school for a while, but because no one knew the seriousness of her condition, we did not have the chance to say goodbye.
Today, I am a part time teacher of photography in a new media school. Looking at my students made me think about the days of my youth. I thought about the friends that I used to hang out with, the times I had fallen in love, and all the nights we spent partying. But it also made me think about Esther who died young and did not have the chance to grow up.
I photographed the students in pairs. They were either best friends or lovers. I wanted both to photograph some essence of them as individuals as well as highlight their relationship with each other.
I often tell my students that photography is a medium that teaches us above all things that our time here is brief.
Perhaps this work is a way for me to say a proper goodbye to my youth, and to my friend, Esther.
"
